The Waterboard Hollands Noorderkwartier (HHNK) is, in the area north of the North Sea, responsible for:

– Dikes: protecting people from floods;
– Water: to ensure adequate and clean surface;
– Roads: the management and maintenance of rural roads.

One of our main tasks is purification of wastewater. We do this with the help of 15 wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), which together treat more than 100 million m3 of wastewater per year. This huge amount of wastewater is partly derived from households and businesses connected to the sewerage system. The other part consists of rainwater that enters the sewer system. The treated water (water) is returned back to the surface water.

More information is available on the website www.hhnk.nl.
